Petro was awarded her Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Petroria, South Africa in 1991, and went on to complete postgraduate studies in Pharmacology for Physiotherapist and a Diploma in Orthopaedic manipulative techniques at the University of Witwatersand, South Africa. She workd in a private practice in South Africa mainly treating sporting injuries and working with the Cats rugby union team, as well as the Bafana Bafana, South African soccer team. Petro gained experience in primary and rural health care in Malawi, before moving to Tannum Sands in Queensland, where she treated the local AFL, swimming and league teams, as well as the children in the local ballet school. Petro also has extensive experience in corporate physiotherapy. She gained expertise in pre-employment functional assessments, workstation assessment and set up, manual handling requirements and teaching to workers as well as industry experience including control room assessment and redesign. Petro has developed a keen interest in orthotic prescription and the benefits of custom-made orthotics to prevent injuries. Petro has successfully completed a range of further studies to enhance her knowledge and skills. As a triathlete, she has developed a knack for treating triathletes - and especially Type A personalities.
